A Mango in Pink

5"x4" oil on stretched canvas

I've never been keen on mangoes but became really fond of this one and thought of her as Teresita, after a good friend of mine; they share the same personality.

The Leaning Red Pepper

6"x5" oil on gessoed Masonite panel

Oh dear, my first red pepper and it's off and running to the post, and yes, it seems about to be tumbling off the board!
Well, really, it's too much fun not to post; but I'd better pay closer attention to all that space I have to work with.

This posting is a little darker than the original photo taken of the painting.

Red Onion

6" x 6" oil on gessoed masonite panel

This red onion was painted with a friend, artist Cherie Nobilette. At first the onion sat on a plain but sunny cloth; yet, something was not working for us and set up was looking more and more still-life miserable. We noticed a gaily striped, festive dish cloth laying on the kitchen counter; and whipped it under the onion and the difference was amazing. The serious deep red stripes of the skin shaping the onion's sphere and the crazy waving stripes of the cloth undulating beneath it...well, I loved it.
